Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs) and Drug-Induced Hyperhidrosis: A Clinical Case
نویسندگان
چکیده
Objective: To discuss the role of a proton pump inhibitor (pantoprazole) as a cause of night sweats in an older person. Methods: Our case involves a 73 year-old man who experienced night sweats while taking pantoprazole to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease. Results: Night sweats disappeared ten days after ceasing pantoprazole. They recurred two months later, one week after recommencing pantoprazole. Conclusion: Proton pump inhibitors are a rare cause of night sweats in older persons.

Drug-Induced Subacute Cutaneous Lupus Erythematosus Associated with Proton Pump Inhibitors
Subacute cutaneous lupus erythematosus (SCLE) is an autoimmune disease that may be induced by proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) in at-risk populations. The US FDA does not recognize SCLE as an adverse event associated with PPIs. We queried the FDA Adverse Event Reporting System database, which contains adverse event case reports submitted by the public as well as by industry, and analyzed the data ...
متن کاملAdvantages and Disadvantages of Long-term Proton Pump Inhibitor Use
Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) potently inhibit gastric acid secretion and are widely used for treatment of acid-related diseases including gastroesophageal reflux disease and secondary prevention of aspirin/NSAID-induced ulcers. Although clinically important adverse effects of PPIs can occur, just as with other drugs, those are not frequently observed during or after administration. Thus, PPIs ...
متن کاملSystematic review: hypomagnesaemia induced by proton pump inhibition.
BACKGROUND Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are a mainstay therapy for all gastric acid-related diseases. Clinical concerns arise from a small but growing number of case reports presenting PPI-induced hypomagnesaemia (PPIH) as a consequence of long-term PPI use. Current opinion is that reduced intestinal magnesium absorption might be involved, but nothing is known on the molecular mechanism underl...
متن کاملOccupational Airborne Contact Dermatitis From Proton Pump Inhibitors.
Few published reports have described occupational contact dermatitis from proton pump inhibitor (PPI) exposure in the literature. We present an additional case of a 58-year-old male pharmaceutical worker with an occupational airborne allergic contact dermatitis to PPIs confirmed by patch testing. This is a novel report of workplace exposure to dexlansoprazole and esomeprazole PPIs with resultan...
متن کاملRepositioning Proton Pump Inhibitors as Anticancer Drugs by Targeting the Thioesterase Domain of Human Fatty Acid Synthase
Fatty acid synthase (FASN), the enzyme responsible for de novo synthesis of free fatty acids, is up-regulated in many cancers. FASN is essential for cancer cell survival and contributes to drug resistance and poor prognosis. However, it is not expressed in most nonlipogenic normal tissues. Thus, FASN is a desirable target for drug discovery. Although different FASN inhibitors have been identifi...
